Prescription painkiller: ‘poor man’s heroin’ or wonder drug?

April 30, 2008

I can’t begin to tell you how sick I am of this shit. This “poor man’s heroin” shit. Just another example of how the “media” know exactly squat about addiction. Even though most of them have their own little pills rattling around in their pocketbooks and pockets. Let me tell you something. Oxy’s traditionally go (depending on geography and market availability like everything else) for half of their milligram content. So, Oxy 40’s go for $20, Oxy 80’s for $40, and so on. Depending how desperate the buyer is, I’ve seen 80’s go for $65 apiece!

Almost anywhere you can get a $25 bag of heroin that will blow a $40 Oxy out of the water. OxyContin is NOT the poor man’s heroin. Heroin is the poor man’s heroin. In nearly all markets Oxy’s are more expensive. What they ARE is safer (you know exactly what you are getting), pure pharmaceutical grade (not stepped on with some random bullshit), and less intimidating.

In other words, Oxy’s often can be much less risky, for some even legal, to obtain (hey, I was out of my mind for 3 years without breaking a single law). Where a bag requires a visit with the big, bad, heroin dealer (like your neighbor Bill the tax accountant for instance)—some individuals simply swipe their Oxy’s off of their injured, or cancer-ridden relatives. Or even buy them from the old lady down the street who’s trying to decide between eating cat food for dinner or getting her refills at Wal-Mart. Oxy’s are not on the Wal-Mart $4 plan—trust me. But… addicts with game (read: all addicts) often get their insurance company to buck-up (try getting heroin with a co-pay). And finally, unlike heroin that needs to be shot, snorted, or smoked (very intimidating to the inexperienced user)… Oxy’s can simply be swallowed.

Report: Clemens had relationship with Mindy McCready

April 29, 2008

Mindy McCready is back in the news again. This time for disclosing an alleged 15-year “non-sexual” relationship with Roger Clemens. Well that makes sense, actually. Between Clemen’s ‘roid rages and McCreedy nodding off on the Oxy’s, I don’t imagine there was much action in the bedroom. Word is McCreedy is planning a “comeback” using what-else? A TV Show as the vehicle. Not bad for a script-forger, huh? Some of us get jail time, mandated treatment, random drug tests, fines, and legal and court fees. Some of us get our own TV Show.

Relistor Helps Ease Painkiller- Related Constipation

April 28, 2008

Well here is some good news. One of the more annoying side effects of high-dosing opiates is the constipation. In fact, if you don’t keep an eye on this little inconvenience, and let it get out-of-hand, you can end up “impacted”. Fecal impaction is a complication of constipation in which the stool hardens and can no longer be eliminated with normal bowel movements. Now there’s a party. Nothing like ending up at the emergency room having shit spooned out of your ass. Or better-yet, in surgery. Lovely.

The best news though? Relistor is administered intravenously! What a great idea! Lets take a bunch of pill-poppers, so far gone on opiates that they can’t even shit, and introduce them to needles. Brilliant! What could go wrong? What planet do these fucking people live on?

Purdue, OxyContin Maker, Races Rivals to Deter Abuse

April 28, 2008

And I quote: “Purdue Pharma LP, the maker of the painkiller OxyContin, is racing smaller drug companies to introduce tamper-resistant pills that addicts can’t abuse.”

Excuse me, but what the fuck? Seriously. This is Purdue’s big plan? To make the pills “tamper resistant”? Several “smaller drug companies” in the generic market have been implementing tamper-resistance for years. Purdue was aware of this technology, but obviously didn’t want to tarnish the “Oxy” brand-name on the street. The gennies have added “grit”, made the texture “gummy”, etc. to make the pills difficult to snort or shoot. Great. Will the snorters and the shooters be disappointed? Sure. Will this reduce the abuse potential? You must be fucking kidding.

The high that OxyContin-abusers chase is not a product of defeating it’s controlled release “technology” (really, nothing more technologically intricate than a “jawbreaker”). It is the plain fact that, unlike Vicodin, Percocet, etc., Oxy’s contain high-doses of oxycodone (10, 20, 40, 80 mgs), without any additional “adulterants” such as acetaminophen. So basically, you can take retardedly-high doses without overdosing on fucking Tylenol… (those who haven’t done it, I don’t recommend it) …provided you are sufficiently “opiod tolerant”. And if you’re not? Well, then you OD on the actual opiates, and die. No big surprise there.

So, no matter how much “technology” they build into their pills, plenty of “abuse potential” remains. You can still ingest 80, 160, 320 mgs at a time. With no acetaminophen to OD on, or to tear your stomach to shreds. These “actions” by Purdue are nothing but public relations ploys, pure and simple. Defeat Purdue’s tamper-resistance? All you have to do is chew… and swallow.
